Canadian outdoors-woman and popular author Agnes Laut vividly portrays the men who braved the western wildernesses of Canada and U.S. year-around to match wits with the fur-bearing animals at home there. She profiles some of the trappers, the animals they hunted, and the companies that monopolized the industry, from the 18th through the 19th centuries.
